Did you know... 5 facts about Snow Patrol
Ever wondered where the name ‘Snow Patrol’ came from? It has long been rumoured to be a reference to scoring cocaine, but in fact the name ‘Snow Patrol’ came from a friend of the band. Even though they were called ‘Polar Bear’ at the time their mate always referred to the group as ‘Snow Patrol’.
There was also a naming conflict with another band of the same name fronted by Jane's Addiction's ex-bassist Eric Avery. Originally formed in 1994 as Shrug, they became Polar Bear the following year, before settling on Snow Patrol in mid-1997.
Snow Patrol's 2006 smash hit 'Chasing Cars' has been named the most popular song of the century, clinching the number 1 spot on UK radio’s most-played list.
