James Cameron has a new movie out! ALITA: BATTLE ANGEL is an epic adventure set in the 26th century about a female cyborg who is rescued from the scrap heap by a scientist. It stars Birdbox’s Rosa Salazar and Oscar winners Christoph Waltz, Jennifer Connelly & Mahershala Ali.
Jennifer Connelly told me all about her new role in the big budget movie based on the popular Japanese comic books and spoke fondly of her time working with David Bowie on Labyrinth.
The 48 year old actress played a girl trying to reach the centre of an enormous maze to rescue her baby brother in the film Labyrinth.
The 1986 feature saw the late singer play a goblin king called Jareth, who was holding her brother captive.
David Bowie’s appearance in Labyrinth came in the wake of his 1983 album, Let’s Dance, which was produced by Nile Rodgers of Chic, and its follow-up, Tonight.
Directed by Jim Henson and executive-produced by George Lucas, The New York Times reported that Labyrinth had a budget of $25 million. While the film was a box office disappointment, grossing just $12.9 million during its U.S. theatrical run, Labyrinth has since gained a large cult following.
ALITA: BATTLE ANGEL begins when Alita (Rosa Salazar) awakens with no memory of who she is in a future world she does not recognize, she is taken in by Ido (Christoph Waltz), a compassionate doctor who realizes that somewhere in this abandoned cyborg shell is the heart and soul of a young woman with an extraordinary past. As Alita learns to navigate her new life and the treacherous streets of Iron City, Ido tries to shield her from her mysterious history while her street-smart new friend Hugo (Keean Johnson) offers instead to help trigger her memories. But it is only when the deadly and corrupt forces that run the city come after Alita that she discovers a clue to her past – she has unique fighting abilities that those in power will stop at nothing to control. If she can stay out of their grasp, she could be the key to saving her friends, her family and the world she’s grown to love.
The cast do their best to keep a weak story on track while being surround by a ton of albeit amazing, over the top special effects. ALITA: BATTLE ANGEL is amazing in 3D but just not cup of tea and gets ★★★ from me.
Jennifer Connelly is also co-starring alongside Tom Cruise in the highly anticipated sequel, Top Gun: Maverick, which is set to hit theaters in June 2020.
She got a chance to hit the “Highway to the Danger Zone” with Cruise, when she was photographed riding on the back of his motorcycle last November while filming a scene for the movie.
