The multiple all-Ireland hurling champion DJ Carey has learned he's to face a month long court case for fraud and forgery beginning in July 2025.
The trial will see the former Kilkenny all-star face twenty-one fraud and forgery charges.
The 52-year-old, of The Drive, Newtown, Maynooth, Co Kildare, appeared briefly before Dublin Circuit Criminal Court, where a trial date was set for July 2nd, 2025.
Mr. Carey denies all charges including 19 counts of dishonestly inducing people to pay him money after he fraudulently claimed to have cancer and required finances for treatment.
He faces two other charges of using a false instrument with the intention of inducing another to accept it as genuine.
Mr Carey is regarded as one of the greatest hurlers of all time winning five All-Ireland senior medals.
He captained Kilkenny to win the Liam McCarthy Cup in 2003. He was named Hurler of the Year in 2000, while he won nine All Star awards.
Since retiring, he has managed the Kilkenny U21 hurlers and was a selector for the county senior team. Judge Orla Crowe remanded Mr Carey on continuing bail.
