Beatles fans across the world have been voicing their opinions on the cast announcement for the upcoming four-movie biopic.
The cast was revealed by director Sam Mendes, during a surprise appearance at CinemaCon on Monday. The Fab Four will be played by Harris Dickinson (John Lennon), Paul Mescal (Paul McCartney), Barry Keoghan (Ringo Starr) and Joseph Quinn (George Harrison). Sony also shared a photo of all four actors together.
Each Beatle is set to have their own individual feature film which will all be released in April 2028. The project has been called the “first bingeable moment in cinema” and givcen the name of ‘The Beatles – A Four-Film Cinematic Event’
However this cast announcement seems to have fans divided.
A lot of fans have praised the cast's talent and are hopeful that with proper makeup and costumes the actors will be able to transform into their respective bandmembers.
“That's an incredible lineup! Each actor brings a unique intensity that could truly capture the essence of The Beatles. Excited to see how they bring the Fab Four to life!” one X user wrote.
However some are sceptical and think the actors don't look at all like their Beatles counterparts.
Another X user wrote: “Actors don’t have to look like the real ppl but man… The makeup and hair dept. has their work cut out for them”
“So they just didn't bother trying to find characters who resemble the actual people?” another user commented.
Some fans think that the roles were actually assigned incorrectly, with many commenters saying Paul Mescal should actually be playing John Lennon, not his co-star Harris Dickinson. Some have suggested that Dickinson should play George Harrison instead of John Lennon.
Some commenters joked that Hollywood just chose “random white guys” to play the band members saying that “Somewhere out there, Timothée Chalamet is brushing up his Liverpool accent just in case.”
Some users on TikTok have joked about Barry Keoghan's previous attempt at a Scouse accent in the Netflix hit film ‘Saltburn’. Hopefully the Dublin-born actor will have practised a little more before assuming the role of Ringo Starr.
In general, it seems that fans are not too worried about any of the cast's acting abilities but remain hesitant about their ability to capture the look of the Fab Four.
At the end of the day, finding exact doppelgangers for the Beatles (that can also act), is an impossible task. Hopefully the cast will be able to capture the spirit of each Beatle, even if they don't exactly look alike.
