Gardaí are continuing to investigate all circumstances behind Thursday’s serious assault on Parnell Square East this afternoon.
Five casualties have been taken to hospitals including the Mater and CHI Crumlin after a man attacked a number of people on Parnell Square East just before 2pm.
The victims include three young children, a woman and a man. A five-year-old has sustained serious injuries and is receiving emergency medical treatment at Temple Street.
A boy aged five and another girl aged six, who received less serious injuries were brought to CHI Crumlin for treatment. The boy has since been discharged.
Gardaí are providing support to the children’s parents. The female victim in her 30’s is being treated for serious injuries at the Mater Hospital.
A man in his 50’s is also being treated for serious injuries at a hospital elsewhere.
An incident room has been established at Mountjoy Garda Station and a Senior Investigating Officer has been appointed.
An Garda Síochána is following a definite line of inquiry. The man in his 50s is a person of interest to gardaí who are not looking for any other person at this time.
Gardaí are appealing to anyone with any information to contact investigating Gardaí who are also appealing to anyone with mobile phone footage of the attack or the immediate aftermath to make the footage available to An Garda Síochána.
