Billboard published their list for their 2024 year-end chart, and the highest ranking rock album may leave some music fans surprised.
In a year where, pop, country and hip hop seemed to be the order of the day, it was Fleetwood Mac's album Rumours, which turned out to be the highest ranking rock album for 2024, despite being originally released almost half a century ago.
The album which arrived in 1977, ranked at number 34 in the charts, just one ahead of Elton John's 2017 record, Diamonds.
Overall, 29 of the Top 200 Billboard Chart for 2024 were rock albums, but none of them were released this year.
Rumours was one of five non-compilation rock albums to make the chart. The other records included Nirvana's Nevermind, AC/DC's Back In Black, Linkin Park's (Hybrid Theory), as well as Sublime's self-titled album from 1996.
As for the chart, Taylor Swift's two albums from this year, The Tortured Poet's Department, and 1989 (Taylor's Version) took the number one and two spots respectively.
