The statue of legendary Irish musician Luke Kelly is set to be floodlit and monitored by permanent CCTV to halt further attacks.
Located on Guild Street, the statue of the late Dubliner has been vandalized seven times since its unveiling.
Speaking to the Irish Independent Paula Kelly, a niece of Luke said: “We are delighted that the council are taking these steps to protect the sculpture.”
“It’s great news for our family, for sculptor Vera Klute, and most importantly for the community of the Sheriff Street and Guild Street area.”
