A biopic on the music legend Frank Sinatra is reportedly in the works, with Martin Scorsese as director.
According to reports, Scorsese is keen to direct the movie, with Leonardo Di Caprio who starred in the director’s film Killers Of The Flower Moon, to play Frank Sinatra, with Jennifer Lawrence to play his second wife and actress Ava Gardiner.
Reports have also suggested that Sony studios are the favourites to acquire the biopic. However, Apple who funded the $215 million budget for Killers Of The Flower Moon have also expressed interest in the film.
No project was given the green light by Frank Sinatra’s Estate, which is controlled by his daughter Tina.
The sticking point could be that the project is to feature the woman who Sinatra had an affair with while married to Tina’s mother, Nancy Barbato.
“different directions”
Martin Scorsese is reportedly hoping to combine this Sinatra project back to back with an adaption of the book Life Of Jesus, written by Shūsaku Endō.
Reports had even said that Scorsese is also hoping to self-finance the movie, with actors Andrew Garfield and Miles Teller considered for the project.
Production is set to begin later this scene, with locations including Italy, Egypt, and Israel. Although the latter presents a huge logistical challenge amid the current war with Hamas.
Scorsese’s Killers Of The Flower Moon also saw him link up with actor Robert Di Niro, who has collaborated on 11 movies with the director, including the Oscar winning Goodfellas in 1990.
However, last May, Scorsese revealed that Robert Di Niro had also turned down chances to star in his movies ‘The Departed’ and ‘Gangs Of New York‘.
“We talked to Bob [De Niro] about it, but he didn’t want to do it”, Scorsese said.
“I didn’t work with Bob for 10 years until we did Goodfellas; we went off in different directions. Then we made another two, three films”.
