Gardai have arrested Lisa Smith on suspicion of terror offences following her return from Turkey.
The former Defence Forces member arrived back into Ireland on a commerical flight this morning.
The 38-year-old Dundalk woman moved to Syria in 2015 to join the Islamic State group.
In recent weeks she was taken into Turkish custody following the bombing of a displacement camp in the north of the country.
She was deported from Turkey this morning along with her two-year-old daughter and was accomapanied by government and defence personnel on a commerical flight back to Ireland.
Upon their landing at Dublin airport, Ms Smith was arrested by Gardai on suspicion of terrorist offences.
She's currently being held at a South Dublin Garda station under Section 30 of the Offences against the State Act.
Her daughter is being cared for by relatives.
