A woman aged in her early 20s has died after being struck by a train that was travelling from Dublin Connolly to Belfast on Friday.
The tragic incident occurred at 7 pm when the woman was hit by the train north of Laytown in Meath.
Emergency services rushed to the scene and gardai and sealed the area off as they in investigated the sudden death.
Emergency services attended the tragic incident and the line between Balbriggan and Drogheda was closed immediately.
An Iarnród Éireann spokesman said on Friday night the line would remain closed north of Balbriggan while the emergency services attended the scene.
Local Fianna Fáil Cllr Tom Behan said via Dublin Live: “It’s a very tragic incident and my thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends of the young girl.”
