Gardaí and Customs have seized over 8 million euro's worth of of heroin at Weston Airport in Co. Dublin.
A light aircraft and a vehicle was searched and intercepted on Friday morning in South Dublin and Co. Kildare.
Up to sixth kilograms of vacuum-packed heroin was found.
Two men, aged in their 40's and 60's were arrested and are being detained under drugs trafficking legislation and can be questioned for up to seven days.
The light aircraft has also been seized and gardaí are now tracing its flight path. It is the largest seizure of heroin in Ireland this year.
As part of ongoing joint investigations being conducted by the Garda National Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau and the Revenue Customs Service, targeting transnational organised crime, heroin was recovered following the interception of a light aircraft and a vehicle in South County Dublin and County Kildare.
Two males have been arrested on suspicion of organised crime activity and are currently detained under the provisions of Section 50 of the Criminal Justice Act, 2006, at a Garda station in County Kildare.
