British comedy Gavin and Stacey is to return for a Christmas Day finale.
The popular sitcom which ran from 2007 to 2010, saw Mathew Horne and Joanna Page star as the titular couple pursuing a long distance relationship across Essex and Wales.
Gavin and Stacey last aired on Christmas Day 2019, leaving it on a cliffhanger as Smithy played by James Corden received a marriage of proposal from on/off girlfriend Nessa, played by comedian Ruth Jones.
Speaking previously, Ruth Jones had played down rumours of a Gavin and Stacey return, citing them as “sadly just a rumour”.
These sentiments were also echoed by comedian Rob Brydon, who plays Uncle Bryn in the sitcom.
“We’ll have: A chicken bhuna, lamb bhuna, prawn bhuna”
However, taking to Instagram, creator James Corden shared a photo of himself and Jones holding a script titled “Gavin and Stacey: The finale”.
“Some news… It’s official!!! We have finished writing the last ever episode of Gavin and Stacey. See you on Christmas Day, BBC One. Love Ruth and James”, Corden wrote.
“We’ll have: A chicken bhuna, lamb bhuna, prawn bhuna, mushroom rice, bag of chips, keema naan, nine poppadoms and the last ever episode of Gavin and Stacey!!!”, the BBC added. “Coming this Christmas Day on BBC One and iPlayer”.
