Gerry Hutch has been found NOT GUILTY of the murder of David Byrne.

The prosecution had claimed that 'The Monk' was one of two gunmen who shot the Kinahan associate at a boxing event at the Regency Hotel in Dublin in February 2016.

The case against Mr Hutch boiled down to whether the judges believed the testimony of State-turned witness Jonathan Dowdall.

In the end, the judges were not convinced by Dowdall's testimony and could find nothing in the case to support his allegation that Mr Hutch was one of the hitmen.

The 60-year-old from the Paddocks in Clontarf had pleaded not guilty to the charge

David Byrne was shot dead on the 5 February 2016 in a murder that rapidly escalated the ongoing Hutch-Kinahan feud which has so far cost 18 lives.

The prosecution claimed that Hutch was one of two gunmen disguised in fake garda tactical uniforms who shot Byrne as he scrambled on the ground of the Regency Hotel.

Gerard Hutch's Defence Counsel, Brendan Grehan SC, says he has instructions to seek his costs. He asked the court to direct his immediate release.

Two men were found guilty of facilitating the murder of David Byrne at the Regency Hotel in February 2016.

Paul Murphy from Swords and Jason Bonney of Portmarnock both allowed their vehicles to be used in the getaway.
