Filming for Season 3 of black-comedy, After Life has gotten underway with Ricky Gervais recently making the announcement on his social media. Gervais, who also stars in The Office and Derek, took to Twitter to share a snap from the set of the hit Netflix series.

Gervais posted a picture of himself holding a clapperboard, with the caption: "Action!", exciting fans of the show with the news. Last week, the Reading -born star teased fans with a photo of himself on Twitter, holding a script labelled 'After Life - Series 3', dated yesterday morning.

Ahead of yesterday’s shoot, Gervais posted the snap and joked: "I’d better learn my lines”, although fans will have to wait a little longer to see the show. Earlier this year, 59 year-old Ricky said he had hoped to have the series ready to air by the end of this year.

Speaking on Lorraine back in February, Gervais said, "Everything's going well, we film in April and May and then it takes a few months to edit and then it takes a couple of months to put into 160 languages. So, I'm hoping [it will air] by the end of the year."

After Life, which Gervais also writes, produces and directs, follows the life of Tony Johnson, a journalist at the fictional Tambury Gazette. Following the loss of his wife to breast cancer, Tony’s life is turned upside down.

Tom Basden also stars as Matt Braden, Tony's brother-in-law and boss of the newspaper he works for. Tony Way plays the role of Lenny the photographer, and Mandeep Dhillon plays newly hired journalist, Sandy.

The first series aired on Netflix in 2019, consisting of six episodes - with another six episodes for season two, in 2020. Sadly, however, Gervais confirmed that the upcoming series will be its last, as he has “never done a third series of anything”.

“I've never done a third series of anything,” said Gervais, “but it felt right, and I fell in love with the characters, and I think this should be it. I've already made my mind up - there just won't be a fourth. You never say never but you put those things out there to make you remember because it's tempting, it's very tempting. The audience think they want another one, but they don't know, they're not sure, so you've got to be careful.”
