The Ghostbusters sequel release date has been pushed back yet again due to the Coronavirus pandemic.
Ghostbusters: Afterlife was initially set to be released in July of this year, then it was pushed back until March 2021. It has now been revealed that the sequel will hit cinemas on June 11th, 2021, exactly 37 years after the original was released.
You can check out the trailer below.
The first 'Ghostbusters' was released in 1984 and was directed by Ivan Reitman and written by Dan Aykroyd and Harold Ramis. The film became a cultural phenomenon and was a success at the box office, bringing in nearly 300 million in its initial run.
A second film was released in 1989. Despite a good showing at the box office, the film, in comparison to the first, was not a success. This led to plans for a third Ghostbusters to be shelved.
Ghostbusters: After life is another film in the Ghostbusters franchise. Afterlife follows the all female 2016 reboot, Ghostbusters: Answer The Call.
The new sequel is to be directed Ivan Reitman’s son, Jason Reitman. The film was written by Reitman and Gil Kenan. The cast includes Paul Rudd, Finn Wolfhard , Mckenna Grace, and Carrie Coon. Stars of the original Ghostbuster films Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson, and Sigourney Weaver are all set to make cameos.
Paul Rudd - Ghostbusters: Afterlife
Ghostbusters: Afterlife revolves around a family who are forced to move to a small town. Soon after their arrival, strange things begin to occur in the quiet town.
This sequel is just another film in a long list that has been pushed back due to the pandemic. The new James Bond, Marvel’s 'Black Widow', 'The Batman', Wes Anderson's 'The French Dispatch' and many more have been pushed back until 2021 or 2022. Due to the unpredictability of the pandemic and consumers apprehension to visit cinema theatres globally, it remains to be seen if these new release dates will stick.
