The X-Files star Gillian Anderson has not ruled out reprising her role in a reboot of the long running franchise.
Anderson who played FBI Special Agent Dana Scully on the show from 1992 to 2022, has offered her seal of approval for the show’s rumoured reboot of the X-Files, directed by Ryan Coogler.
She had previously starred alongside David Duchovny, who played Special Agent Mulder. For 11 seasons, Mulder and Scully investigated crimes of the paranormal.
“cannot think of a better way” – Anderson Supports Reboot
Speaking on Wednesday’s edition of the Today Show, Gillian Anderson said, “It’s so funny because for most of my life, since I have finished The X-Files, every interview I do, people have asked and the answer has always been, ‘Nope, not going to happen, not going to happen”.
“Now, Ryan Coogler, who is the director of Black Panther — brilliant, brilliant director — has approached Chris Carter to say that he wants to do a take on it, and I cannot think of a better way around for a reboot to happen”.
Hailing Coogler as “a bit of genius”, the actress also said that “there’s a chance [a reboot will] happen”.
“Whether I am involved in it is a whole other thing. I’m not saying no. I think he’s really cool and I think if he did it, it would probably be done incredibly well. And maybe I’ll pop in for a little something something”, Anderson added.
Gillian Anderson had previously appeared in a two-season finale of the series. This also ran from 2016 to 2018.
The original X-Files series led to two feature-film spin-offs, The X-Files (1998), and 2008’s The X-Files: I Want To Believe.
