Gladiators referee John Anderson has died aged 92.

He was best known for his role as umpire on the original ITV Show hosted by Ulrika Jonsson from 1992 to 2000. He also featured on the show's short lived Sky series.

In 2002, John Anderson was also inducted into the Coaching Hall of Fame in 2002, having trained more than 100 Olympians.

He was also the head coach of the Amateur Athletics Association of England and Scottish national coach.

Gladiators Pay Tribute To "iconic voice" Anderson

Taking to Instagram, Gladiators also paid a sweet tribute to Anderson.

"We are deeply saddened to hear of the passing of our beloved referee, John Anderson, at the age of 92", they wrote. "Our hearts go out to his friends and family. John will forever be remembered as the iconic voice that brought us ‘Gladiators Ready! Contenders Ready!’", they said.

Anderson also worked with Staffordshire born race walker Lisa Kehler, Scottish Olympic runner Liz McColgan and hurdler William Sharman.

Back in 2021, Gladiators star Michael Jefferson King, who was known as 'Shadow' from the ITV show, was jailed for his part in a kidnap plot over a drug debt.

He was jailed for 6 years and 3 months, having admitted to two counts of blackmail at Isleworth Crown Court. More on this from Nova here.
