Efforts to form a new Government will begin today.
The leaders of Fianna Fail and Fine Gael will sit down to examine what form new a coalition may take.
Both parties have now nominated negotiating teams who will go through the details of how the parties could work together again.
Micheal Martin and Simon Harris will also hold talks with the Social Democrats, Labour and a number of independent TD's.
Meanwhile the Sinn Fein leader Mary Lou McDonald will also be holding talks with other parties, after it became the second largest party following last week's election.
She's also reiterated her call that the Fianna Fail leader should meet with her.
This is despite Michael Martin saying the two parties had fundamental policy differences.
It's thought it could be mid-January before any new coalition will take power.
