NASA landed on Mars for the eighth time today and Billie Joe Armstrong and the boys took to twitter to reveal a connection with the mission. The words “Green Day since 1986” was etched onto a chip aboard the NASAInSight Mars Lander.

"Today, we successfully landed on Mars for the eighth time in human history," said NASA Administrator Jim Bridenstine (via CNN). "InSight will study the interior of Mars and will teach us valuable science as we prepare to send astronauts to the Moon and later to Mars. This accomplishment represents the ingenuity of America and our international partners, and it serves as a testament to the dedication and perseverance of our team. The best of NASA is yet to come, and it is coming soon."

The InSight (Interior Exploration using Seismic Investigations, Geodesy and Heat Transport) Lander will spend two years on the planet's surface collecting data following its 301,223,981 mile journey through the cosmos. The lander also sent a picture of Mars back to NASA as seen below.

Meanwhile, Green Day look set to play live under the moniker of their side project, The Foxboro Hot Tubs.

The Tubs released a record called ‘Stop Drop And Roll!!!’ roughly ten years ago and they played their first show in Arkansas back in 2008. In 2009 the band surfaced in the UK in London for a small suprise gig at Islington’s Garage venue.

On social media, Billie Joe Armstrong had shared a teaser that hints the band could be about resurface very soon. With a screengrab of the group's track blasting on his phone, the lead singer said, “Next week Jumping in some rehearsal time with these big lugs”.
