It could be a sign of a difficult campaign to come, but the Health Minister has become the first cabinet Minister to trigger election talk.
According to the Irish Independent, Stephen Donnelly told Fianna Fail members to start canvassing.
A source for the party told the paper, the Minister said he expected the Taoiseach to dissolve the Dail and call the election next week.
Minister Donnelly also said he thinks the nation will go to the polls in early November.
Taoiseach Simon Harris, has denied an election this side of Christmas previously.
He's been at strains to suggest that the Government would last a full term into next spring.
However his very brief trip to Washington this week to meet US President Joe Biden, was seen as a sign.
That along with images on social media, showing crates of election posters belonging to the Tanaiste.
Minister Stephen Donnelly's reported comments to his party could show signs that his Wicklow seat could be under threat.
It is a constituency that features the Taoiseach, with Fine Gael also confirming Ed Timmons as a running mate for Simon Harris there.
