An appeal to An Bord Pleanála against Dublin City Council's decision to refuse permission for a hotel at the renowned Cobblestone Pub has been withdrawn.
Hundreds upon hundreds of objections were lodged in anger at plans to change the Smithfield venue - as well as a number protests outside the pub itself along with online petitions.
It's renowned for its traditional music sessions and support for the arts over many, many years and is regarded as a grand old pub of Dublin in the truest traditions.
Deputy Lord Mayor of Dublin Joe Costello shared the news via twitter:

Tánaiste Leo Varadkar has been on record last year to say that permission for a hotel at the venue should not have been considered
"The question you have to ask yourself is in a world that’s becoming increasingly homogenised… why do people come to Dublin? They come to see what's unique and distinctive.
"If you start to take away places like the Cobblestone, you actually undermine our longer-term offering for tourism".
