A 1974 Martin D28 Acoustic Guitar which was owned by the late Elvis Presley, is going under the hammer at an auction.
The guitar is up for sale at gottahaverockandroll.com. It is expected to sell for between $150,000 and $300,000.
This instrument comes from former Memphis Mafia bandmember and a close friend of Elvis, Charlie Hodge.
On this guitar, Hodge said, “When Elvis first came on stage he would always do two songs and then he would always take his guitar and flip the guitar to end the song and then toss the guitar over his shoulder without looking at me and throw it for me to catch”.
That is exactly what happened, as Elvis Presley threw the guitar to Charlie whilst on stage.
Along with Presley’s guitar, Michael Jackson’s ‘Thriller’ jacket will also go on sale at this auction. The jacket which was originally sold in 1993 at Sotheby’s, was used at promotional events, and originates from the late singer’s manager.
The auction ends on April 12.
Beatles Cassette Tapes To Go Up For Auction
Earlier this month, it was also confirmed that several rediscovered cassette tapes showing recordings of the Beatles from 1966, would also go up for auction.
Such recordings which include tapes of the band’s tour of Germany, Japan, and the Philippines, are to be sold via Omega Auctions.
One such tape recording, the band’s manager Brian Epstein can be heard speaking about how to import valuable goods from Japan to the UK, without having to pay high import taxes.
