The Epiphone Les Pauls which was used by Noel Gallagher to record Oasis’ debut album ‘Definitely Maybe’, is going up for auction.
Gallagher used this guitar during the entire writing and recording of this album, which arrived in 1994, going on to sell 6.9 million copies.
The album also became the second most streamed album of the 1990s, second behind Oasis’ ‘Whats The Story) Morning Glory’.
This guitar can also been spotted in the music video for Oasis’ hit song ‘Supersonic’, as well as ‘Live Forever’ and ‘Shakemaker’.
Iconic Gallagher Guitar Under The Hammer
This iconic Noel Gallagher guitar will go up for sale at Sotheby’s later this month, running from August 29 to September 12. It is expected to sell for between £60,000 and £80,000.
The guitar is also part of a wide range of eye catching items on display at this auction’s ‘Popular Culture’ range, including a Vox guitar which was used by Prince.
This range also includes an Abbey Road Steinway Grand Piano, used by Paul McCartney, Pink Floyd, Lady Gaga, Radiohead, Foo Fighters and others.
Elsewhere, a guitar which was used by Johnny Marr will also go under the hammer. It was also used by Noel Gallagher to record Oasis’ track ‘Cigarettes And Alcohol’, another song from the ‘Definitely Maybe’ collection.
It is expected to fetch for between £20,000 and £30,000.
Speaking of Definitely Maybe, Noel Gallagher recently claimed that the album best defines who Oasis were as a band, ahead of its upcoming 30th anniversary later this month.
“We knew the songs were great because we played them every night and all the shows were outrageous. But at that time it was just a good album – nothing more, nothing less. It’s only through time that it has become what it is now”, he said.
