A song from Imagine Dragons has successfully landed on the moon.
This comes after a mission was launched by space tech company last month (February 26), Lonestar, who announced plans to launch a rocket from Kennedy Space Center to land a data center on the moon. If this proved successful, a song would be transmitted to the data center.
The chosen track proved to be 'Children Of The Sky', a collaboration between Imagine Dragons and Inon Zur.
Landing on March 6, Inon Zur confirmed that the data center had successfully been receiving transmissions of the single, along with its lyrics, writing: “The song will now be on the Moon… forever!!". Check out this post here.
However, it was not always plain sailing, with the spacecraft temporarily losing contact with the home base during the landing process. After re-establishing contact, it was found that the spacecraft had not landed in the intended spot, while two radio antennas were not operating.
Elsewhere, the spacecraft was struggling to generate sufficient power to complete the mission.
This left the craft's power severely depleted, closing down the mission. Imagine Dragon's track was not broadcasted to Earth as initially hoped. If successful, it would have become the first ever song to be broadcasted on the moon.
The song is one of several tracks to have successfully landed on the moon, following on from Elvis Presley, Jimi Hendrix, Timbaland, and others who landed there last February.
Speaking of Imagine Dragons, last August, their drummer Daniel Platzman had confirmed his departure from the band. More on this from Nova here.
