Weezer have shared a cover of Toto’s ‘Rosanna.’ The track was originally recorded by the California Rock Pop band and was the second single to be released from their 1982 album Toto IV. You can check out the cover below…
It’s a fairly faithful cover, but there’s an interwebs story behind this version of Toto’s 1980 hit. For months now, the clandestine Twitter account @weezerafrica has been on a mission to petition Weezer to cover Toto’s other famous song, ‘Africa,’ which was their biggest hit.
A classic song so pop-tastic and catchy that it’s become the stuff of meme lore and has garnered the interest of web savvy kids. Weezer are essentially trolling back and providing a little lesson to the younger generation of some great softer rock with their cover of ‘Rosanna’.
According to Noisey, the Twitter campaigner is a 14-year-old called Mary who loves Weezer and learned about ‘Africa’ from watching Stranger Things. Her first reaction to the cover seems to be one of shock or disbelief!
