Irish film KNEECAP has received six BAFTA nominations.

Directed by Rich Peppiatt, KNEECAP has received BAFTA nods for Outstanding Debut, Outstanding British Film, Film Not In The English Language, Original Screenplay, as well as Casting and Editing.

"It's a huge honour as a filmmaker to see your work recognised by some of the best in the business that make up BAFTA. And the idea of Prince William handing an award to Kneecap is already the best thing that could happen in 2025, and it's only January...", Peppiatt said.

This ceremony will take place on Sunday, 16 February at the Southbank Centre's Royal Festival Hall in central London, and will be attended by BAFTA president Prince William.

Last year, KNEEPCAP also won its legal challenge over a decision to refuse them a £14,250 stg. funding award with the British Government forced to accept that decision was “unlawful” on grounds of nationality and political opinion. More on this here.

"a huge honour"

Reacting to this news, KNEEPCAP said this.

“For long enough the British government has stolen Ireland's treasures, and even our f****** food - there was no famine. To be first-time actors and now get to hopefully go over and take a few bits back the other way is a nice change and long may it continue. Ireland taking British awards is f****** hilarious. This acting business is handy", they stated.

Alongside the rap group's trio of Móglaí Bap, Mo Chara and DJ Próvaí, KNEEPCAP's movie also stars Oscar nominee Michael Fassbender, Josie Walker, Simone Kirby, Jessica Reynolds and Adam Best.

Along with this, KNEEPCAP have also been shortlisted for two Oscar nominations, including Best International Feature and Best Original Song for 'Sick In The Head'.

The Oscar nomination ceremonies will take place on January 23.
