Here at Radio Nova, we are delighted to be part of Irish Music Month 2024 this September!

Whether it’s rock, pop, folk or blues – here at Radio Nova, and independent radio across Ireland, we’ll be dedicating all of September as Irish Music Month to supporting Irish artists and playing as many home-grown tunes as possible!

A New Local Hero, is a call for all musicians and bands across Ireland from 21 participating radio stations in Ireland to put their names forward.

Artists Hannah McGinn, Speakers, Ten Hail Marys and Yes Chef! as their local finalists for Radio Nova.

Each act is to be interviewed, as well as perform on their local station. One act will be chosen to go forward onto the long list of contenders for the national A New Local Hero Award.

Check out Radio Nova’s shortlisted artists:

Hannah McGinn

Young Dublin singer Hannah McGinn is an artist who mixes primal folk with modern-sounding indie music to create her own sound.

Having performed several gigs across Dublin, Hannah had shared her debut single, ‘Skin Deep’ back in June.

Hannah McGinn has credited Adrianne Lenker, Joni Mitchell and Lily Allen as her inspirations.

Ten Hail Marys:

Joining the shortlist, Ten Hail Marys are one of the most exciting alt-rock names to emerge from Dublin’s healthy guitar band scene.

Having sold out their debut show in February 2023, Ten Hail Marys have dropped their new single ‘I Had A Dream’, and have also announced a collaboration with local rapper Curtisy which is lined up for October.

Yes Chef!

Forming in 2023, Yes Chef! have rocked the audiences of Dublin, including shows in Whelan’s, The Workman’s Club Main Room, and the Grand Social among others.

Having treated their fans to pop-rock melodies, and ripping guitar solos, Yes Chef! show an energy which has earned them as a deserved Local Hero nomination.

Speakers:

Speakers are another band who have performed across well known stages across Ireland, including Sea Sessions.

Having formed in 2020, the band possess a sound which is deep rooted in names like Chemical Brothers, Blink-182 and Paramore.

They shared their debut EP Endless Summer last year, with their latest track ‘Cooler Talk’, just a taster of the music which has also earned them a nomination.
