Jack Black Promises Tenacious D Will Be Back

Jack Black has insisted that Tenacious D will be back on the road, despite pulling the plug on recent shows following Kyle Gass’ controversial comments regarding Donald Trump.

Black recently called off a number of tour shows, following Gass’ comments on the recent assassination attempt on the former US president.

Last month, the pair were on stage in Sydney, when Jack Black began to sing Happy Birthday to his bandmate Gass who was celebrating his 64th birthday.

After Black asked Gass to make a birthday wish, Gass told the audience: “Don’t miss Trump next time”.

Gass’ comments sparked major criticism, including calls from Australian politicians to have the pair to be deported from the country. More on this here.

Gass also subsequently apologised for his comments.

In a since deleted post on social media, Gass wrote: “The line I improvised onstage Sunday night in Sydney was highly inappropriate, dangerous and a terrible mistake. I don’t condone violence of any kind, in any form, against anyone”.

He also added: “What happened was a tragedy, and I’m incredibly sorry for my severe lack of judgment. I profoundly apologize to those I’ve let down and truly regret any pain I’ve caused”. 

“Everybody needs a break sometime”

Yesterday evening, Jack Black attended the premiere for his new movie Borderlands, where he insisted that talks Tenacious D’s demise were premature.

“We need to take a break. Everybody needs a break sometime”, Black said in an interview on the night. “And we’ll be back”. 

Black also insisted that he is still on good terms with Kyle Gass, despite his controversial joke.

“Yeah, we’re friends. That hasn’t changed”, Black explained. “These things take time sometimes… And we’ll be back when it feels right”. 

At this event, Jack Black showed his love for Tenacious D at the Borderlands event, showing off his magic guitar pick from 2006 comedy Tenacious D in the Pick of Destiny.

“Look what I wore today,” Black said. “I wore the Pick of Destiny. I love Tenacious D. It’s probably my favourite job, if you can call it that. It’s a work of art, it’s my baby”.
