Michael Jackson is set to become the first artist to premiere a music video on Twitter, if you’re a night owl it’s being posted at 3am Irish time.
Epic Records announced that Jackson’s upcoming single ‘A Place With No Name,’ taken from the album XSCAPE, released in May 2014, will make history premiering on Thursday August 14th on Twitter.
The short film will be posted on The King of Pop’s Twitter account @MichaelJackson. A Place With No Name’s video will also be shown in New York City, on a huge digital screen in Times Square at the exact same time.
The short film was directed by Samuel Bayer, who made the videos for Nirvana’s Smells Like Teen Spirit, The Cranberries’ Zombie, Garbage’s Stupid Girl and The Smashing Pumpkins’ Bullet with Butterfly Wings. It features outtakes and behind-the-scenes footage from the video for Jackson’s 1992 single In The Closet.
Xscape is the second album to be released since Jackson’s death in 2009. The record consists of previously unreleased tracks, such as ‘Loving You’ recorded in 1987 during the Bad sessions, ‘Do You Know Where Your Children Are’ written and recorded in 1990 during the Dangerous sessions and ‘A Place With No Name’ written and recorded in 1998, inspired by the track ‘A Horse with No Name,’ by the rock band America.
