James Blunt has said that he only allows his children to listen to classic rock music.

The 50 year old British singer/songwriter is renowned for his hugely successful 2005 single ‘You’re Beautiful’, which reached number one in the UK and US, and was a key reason why his 2004 album Back to Bedlam to hit the top spot in the charts, selling over 12 million copies worldwide.

Back to Bedlam spent 10 weeks at number one in the album chart, while ‘You’re Beautiful’ stayed at the top of the singles chart for 5 weeks.

“long hair and play the electric guitar”

In a fresh interview with The Guardian, James Blunt revealed that he originally harboured dreams of being a Rockstar.

“I’ve always wanted to be a rock star”, Blunt said. “I wanted to have long hair and play the electric guitar and be in a band. But to be in a band, you need friends. So I’ve ended up with an acoustic guitar and a tear”.

Blunt also revealed that he has been tutoring his children about the finer points of classic rock music.

“Back in Black by AC/DC, because I am only playing my children 80s guitar bands”, he said.

“They have a choice of Europe, AC/DC, Survivor and Alice Cooper,” he added. “They don’t know there’s anything else out there. I just find it amusing on the school run”.

Elsewhere, James Blunt has also pointed to Black Country band Slade, and their 1971 single, Coz I luv You, because “it allows me to crowdsurf”.

Back in 2022, James Blunt also spoke about the reason behind his track, ‘You’re Beautiful’.

In November last year, Blunt also revealed that his song ‘Dark Thought’ was inspired by a visit to the late Carrie Fisher’s house.

He wrote about this in his memoir, ‘Loosely Based On A True Story’. More on this from Nova here.
