The guitar used by Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain from the iconic 'MTV Unplugged' performance, is to feature at an upcoming London exhibition.
This show is seen as one of Nirvana's greatest ever performances, and was recorded in November 1993, just five months before Cobain's death. Later released as a live album in 1994, it went on to earn Nirvana their first ever Grammy Award, and is hailed as one of the all time great live albums.
The exhibition is part of a myriad of live events celebrating Nirvana's legacy.
Now, the guitar which was used by the late Kurt Cobain at this show, will feature at an upcoming exhibition at London's Royal College of Music Museum between June 3 and November 18 this year.
This exhibition, which was curated by rock journalist Alan di Perna and curator Gabrielle Rossi Rognoni, will also mark the first time that this famous instrument is displayed in the UK.
Previously, the guitar was purchased for $6million, by Australian entrepreneur Peter Freedman AM, making it the most expensive guitar to be sold under the hammer.
At the time, Freedman said that he was buying the guitar in order to highlight: "the plight of artists worldwide by touring it around and then I’m going to sell it and use the dough for that as well, later".
Handing this guitar over for the exhibition, Peter Freedman has said that he is fulfilling these ambitions, saying: “I am delighted that this exhibition will premiere at the Royal College of Music, bringing Cobain’s guitar to the UK for the first time and inspiring a new generation of musicians".
This exhibition which is titled: Kurt Cobain: Unplugged, will also feature an iconic olive-green mohair cardigan worn by Cobain on stage, along with a curated collection of Nirvana, including vinyl records, gig posters, as well as Cobain's own music equipment.
Tickets go on sale April 30, priced at £5. These are available here.
Back in 2023, the guitar which was used by the late Kurt Cobain at Nirvana's las ever tour, sold for over $1.5 million. More on this here.
