David Bowie’s last ever UK show was voted the “most magical moment” in a fan-voted poll last night.

This gig saw the late singer Bowie perform at the Isle of Wight Festival in 2004, and this was announced at the launch at Experience 25, and exhibition which celebrates the festival’s history.

The event allowed fans the chance to vote from a list of previous performances from the festival on social media.

From this poll, it was David Bowie who came out on top, in a list which included Irish singer Andrea Corr performing on stage with Gary Kemp wearing Bowie masks in a tribute to the singer in 2016. Bowie had passed away earlier that year.

The list also included the late Amy Winehouse joining Rolling Stone on the Isle of Wight stage in 2007.

In a speech made at the launch, the festival’s organiser John Giddings said: “In 07 I came up with the idea of putting Amy Winehouse onstage with The Rolling Stones. I thought the hardest bit would be to get Mick Jagger to let Amy up there. So I went to him and he jumped at the opportunity… but then I went to Amy who said she could never do it; she was too nervous! It took me about half an hour to persuade her to do it but when you see the result of it… it was amazing”.

Isle of Wight Recall Iconic David Bowie Show

Recalling that iconic Bowie performance, John Giddings also added: “It was during the Euros and I’d decided to put France versus England on the main screens. When I went to collect David from the dressing room it was 1 – 0 to England. By the time we’d gotten to the stage it was 2 – 1 to France, so he walked on to a silent crowd. I tell you, if it was anybody else they would have died completely but he came on, opened with “Rebel Rebel” and the rest is history”.

The festival have also said that an announcement regarding the line up for next year’s festival will be made on Monday (September 23). Find out more here.

Last month, previously unseen footage of David Bowie performing at his iconic Ziggy Stardust tour, was also released. More on this from Nova here.
