Clapton’s “Old Sock” Is Inspired By Bowie

Eric Clapton reveals how Bowie gave him the title of his new album

While considering what to name his new record, Clapton came across Bowie's new song "Where Are We Now?" on TV.

"The construction of the song gave me cold chills; it is seriously good," said Clapton. "I called the office and said ‘can you send a message to David’s office and just say ‘thank you for writing such a beautiful song.’ And he came back, ‘Thanks for the shout out, old sock...really appreciate it.’ And then I thought, ‘there it is.’"

Old Sock follows some of Clapton's major musical influences and favourite covers, from Leadbelly to J.J. Cale; Peter Tosh to George Gershwin; Hank Snow to Gary Moore and Taj Mahal. The album also includes a collaboration with Paul McCartney, along with two original songs - "Every Little Thing" and "Gotta Get Over".

Band have announced October arena tour, with guests Shinedown and Halestorm.

This marks the first time the band have graced British shores since 2011. Tickets will go on sale from 9am on Friday 5 April for five different venues, which can be viewed below.

Alter Bridge played so sold-out audiences during the last UK visit, with their now-legendary show at Wembley Arena being filmed and released on DVD. The band are currently juggling rehearsals with penning and recording fresh material for a new upcoming album, which will be released this September.

"Thrilled to be returning to the UK with Shinedown and Halestorm later this year! I’m looking forward to reconnecting with the part of the world that embraced Alter Bridge from the start" said frontman Myles Kennedy

Shinedown's Brent Smith said the band were "truly honoured" to be supporting Alter Bridge, and that the band were "so excited to be part of such an amazing tour."

Guitar playing siren Lzzy Hale informed fans that they should come "prepared to leave the building barefoot, cuz the lot of us are gonna rock your socks off!"
