Lauryn Hill has confirmed that the UK and European leg of her tour with The Fugees will still be going ahead.
Yesterday it was revealed that Lauryn Hill and the Fugees North American shows had been cancelled just three days before the concerts would start.
At the time, concert-goers were not given a reason for the last minute cancellation and the fate of the European tour dates was left unclear.
In a post made to Instagram today, Hill confirmed that all UK and European shows would still be going ahead and also shed light on the reason for the cancellation of her US tour dates.
“The trust and faith I have in my intentions… have been overshadowed,”
“The shows in the UK and Europe ARE MOVING FORWARD as planned.” Hill opened with.
Describing why the North American tour was cancelled, the iconic musician cited clickbait articles from tabloid papers had negatively affected ticket sales in America.
“Last year, I faced an injury that necessitated the rescheduling of some of my shows. Regrettably, some media outlet’s penchant for sensationalism and clickbait headlines have seemingly created a narrative that has affected ticket sales for the North American portion of the tour. The trust and faith I have in my intentions and my commitment to my art seem to have been overshadowed by this unfortunate portrayal.”
“I can assure you that no one is more disappointed about not being able to perform than I am.”
“Performing for my fans is a profound exchange of energy and emotion that excites me every time” the American singer added. “Every show is a piece of my expression and testament to our connection and shared love for music. I can assure you that no one is more disappointed about not being able to perform than I am.”
Hill concluded the statement by thanking fans for their understanding and mentioning how excited they were for the upcoming UK and European shows. The iconic 90’s star also promised North American fans that herself and The Fugees will hopefully return once “these unforeseen circumstances are resolved.”
“With Love, Respect and Honesty, MLH” she signs off.
This tour comes after a number of shows dedicated to ‘Miseducation’ were cancelled last November due to Hill experiencing “serious vocal strain”.
The 49-year-old has since returned to performing live, appearing at a few festivals over the spring including Coachella.
In January of 2022, Lauryn Hill and The Fugees cancelled their 25th anniversary tour citing the Covid-19 pandemic as the cause.
