Liam Neeson is to star in the long-awaited reboot of the Naked Gun franchise.

Rumours of a possible reboot of the franchise which had been circulating since 2009, were cooled following the death of original star Leslie Nielsen in 2010.

The reboot will directed by Akiva Schaffer, who will also serve as executive producer. Schaffer also co-wrote the draft script with Dan Gregor and Doug Man.

Paramount have confirmed a release date for July 18, 2025 for the reboot of Naked Gun, which will be produced by Family Guy creator Seth McFarlane, and the Fuzzy Door production company.

Having been originally released in 1988, Naked Gun has included a number of sequels, and a brief TV show.

Liam Neeson and a “wonderful chapter”

Liam Neeson accepted an offer to star in the lead role of this Naked Gun reboot, having been approached by McFarlane.

At the time, Neeson was even considering retiring from acting, according to reports.

The Ballymena native has just finished shooting for his latest action film Road to the Sky, which took place in the small Australian town of Walhalla.

This town even transformed into a Nepalese village for a three week period, with the amount of tourists visiting the village skyrocketing since Neeson arrived.

In a social media post, the town called this three week period a “wonderful chapter”.

“And just like that, it’s all over. The Hollywood magic moves on”, they wrote. “It’s been an amazing experience. Fabulous to have so many stars in town. A wonderful chapter in our history book. We hope you have enjoyed the ride too”.

Last year, Liam Neeson also starred in a thriller Retribution, which arrived last August.

The film also included Lilly Aspell, Jack Champion, Noma Dumezweni, Mathew Modine and Embeth Davidtz. Davidts had previously starred alongside Neeson in Schindler’s List.
