Fleetwood Mac have confirmed Buckingham’s departure in an issued statement which you can read below. Reports suggest that he was fired from the group. Guitarist and vocalist, Buckingham, first joined the band in 1974 and remained a member until 1987. He then returned to the group in 1996.
Fleetwood Mac has enlisted Mike Campbell, longtime lead guitarist for Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, and Crowded House singer Neil Finn. They’ll be joining the band for their upcoming tour.
Co-founder Mick Fleetwood said in his own statement, ‘Fleetwood Mac has always been about an amazing collection of songs that are performed with a unique blend of talents. We jammed with Mike and Neil and the chemistry really worked and let the band realize that this is the right combination to go forward with in Fleetwood Mac style. We know we have something new, yet it’s got the unmistakable Mac sound.’
