Kurt Vile’s new record ‘Bottle It In’ will be released in a matter of days and as a promotion of the forthcoming release, the folk artist was a guest at SiriusXM to play “Bassackwards” as well as a great a cover of Tom Petty’s “Learning To Fly.” The track is one of the most popular Petty songs and it’s available below.
According to Stereogum, Kurt Vile already showed himself to be a respectable cover artist back on 2011’s So Outta Reach with his version of Bruce Springsteen’s “Downbound Train” and once again on his 2017 Courtney Barnett collaboration of Whole Lotta Lice.
Vile’s “Learning To Fly” is true to Petty’s 1991 original, drawing on the same warmth. It’s an intimate cover and his unique voice’s give the song a folksy twang.
