Morrissey has just released a cover version of “Wedding Bell Blues” a well known hit by The 5th Dimension.
The song that was originally sung by Marilyn McCoo has a slightly different sound thanks to Morrissey’s vocal interpretation.
This cover version also includes backing vocals from Green Day’s frontman Billie Joe Armstrong and Lydia Night of The Regrettes.
The track dropped on April 8 and is the lead single from California Son, Morrissey’s upcoming album of covers from the 1960s and 1970s.
Described by Billboard as a feel-good track with sweet lyrics like: “Oh Bill, I love you so/ I always will/ I look at you and see the passion eyes of May/ Oh but am I ever gonna see my wedding day?”
This new version describes Morrissey’s voice as singing alongside an accompaniment of jangly piano and whistling harmonies. California Son is set to drop on May 24 th via Etienne Records/BMG. Check it out below.
