The long awaited and much anticipated Led Zeppelin documentary is to finally get its debut on the cinema screens.

Five years after it was originally announced, and two years since it was reportedly completed, Becoming A Led Zeppelin will be rolled out on cinema screens, after Sony Classic Pictures acquired the movie, and became its distributor.

At the time of writing, no release date for this film has been officially announced.

The documentary features previously unseen archive footage and photographs, along with state-of-the-art audio transfers of the band’s music. It will also feature music from artists who helped to shape their sound.

A snippet of this film had premiered at the Cannes Film Festival in 2021.

Sony Keen To Find “best possible sound” For Led Zeppelin Doc

Reacting to this news, producer and co-writer Allison McGourty has backed Sony Pictures Classics as they believe in the “theatrical experience”.

“Sony Pictures Classics are the perfect partners because they are true believers in the theatrical experience and are passionate about giving the millions of Led Zeppelin fans a chance to see and hear them on the greatest screens and sound systems in the world”, McGourty said.

“We have spent years designing this film to be experienced on the big screen with the best possible sound”, director Bernard McMahon also added.

Following its original premiere, it has been reported that footage of the band’s performance at the Bath Film festival in 1970 has been added to it.

That show saw Led Zeppelin joined by Steppenwolf, Canned Heat, Johnny Winter, Jefferson Airplane, the Moody Blues, Frank Zappa, the Byrds, Santana, Dr John, and Pink Floyd.

Last December, a very special cover of Led Zeppelin classic ‘Stairway To Heaven’ was released by the St Andrews’ College Band in Christchurch, which went viral.
