A duet between Mick Jagger and Carly Simon has been recovered over 45 years after it was first recorded. The track from 1972, is reported to be called ‘Fragile’, and it's believed it's never been heard in public before.
It was discovered on a tape belonging to a Rolling Stones collector called Matt Lee and features both Jagger and Simon dueting on a slow ballad. According to The Associated Press, Jagger is the main vocal of the piece while Simon contributes the harmonies.
Speaking to Rolling Stone in 2016, Carly Simon said: “We had this little back and forth at the piano for about an hour.” In the same interview she also said the recording had been missing for decades and then sang a line from the song, “Funny, funny, funny, funny, funny/How love can make you cry.“
It's alleged that the recording discovered by Lee is identical to those lyrics, apart from when the pair appear to sing “change” instead of “cry”.
Lee hasn't commented where the tape originates from but did reveal he had sent a digital file of the song to Rolling Stone because they had agreed they would pass it on to Simon. Lee explained, “I’m not doing it for the money,” “I’m a collector. My motive for sending it to Rolling Stone was to pass it to Carly.”
Meanwhile, Jagger revealed to the NME earlier this year that he was working on new Rolling Stones music. “I don’t really think about what I have written, much. I just keep ploughing forward, really,” he said.
He also said he wasn’t thinking about quitting performing just yet, “there is going to come a point when we don’t want to do it anymore, for whatever reason. But I’m not thinking about that this summer.”
