Medicine for Melancholy is Rivers Cuomo's first English-language solo release since 2011. The Weezer frontman has just released the new track.
The song comes ahead of the anticipated release of Weezer's The Black Album which is due out later this year. The track is synth heavy and we at Nova Towers are left wondering, is this a sign of a different direction for Weezer's new record?
The song is tinged with a slight regret of having that Friday feeling and needing some company, as Cuomo sings the chorus,
'We got that Friday feeling / Can I hang out with you for a bit? / You’re my medicine for melancholy.'
Here's a sampler,
Medicine for MelancholyRivers just performed a solo acoustic set in L.A where he covered, The Pixies, The Smashing Pumpkins, Oasis as well as countless Weezer songs.
Cuomo kicked off the acoustic set with R.E.M.’s 'Losing My Religion' and immediately followed it with the Smashing Pumpkins’ 'Today.' Much later in the set, he broke out the Oasis epic 'Champagne Supernova,' and he ended things with Pixies’ still-ubiquitous 'Where Is My Mind?'
