A man was refused bail in court today after being charged with a slashing attack on a woman in Donnybrook on Wednesday.

34-year-old Sami Skhiri of no fixed abode is accused of robbery and assault causing harm, trespassing, possessing a blade, and failing to provide identity documents in connection with the incident.

He appeared before Dublin District Court where it was alleged that the injured woman noticed an unknown man in the corner of her garden and asked if he was okay?

The accused's bail hearing heard that there was no response to that and that he “lunged” and made “slash motions.” The woman sustained a slashed face and a cut to her hand.

The accused, a French-Tunisian software engineer was arrested nearby, allegedly in possession of the woman’s car keys.

The court heard he was believed to have arrived in Ireland less than 24 hours before the incident and had acquired no accommodation.

In evidence, the defendant was asked his name and replied: “I am Jesus!”.

He eventually told gardai he is Sami Skhiri and that he had lived and studied in Tunisia and France. He had worked as a software engineer but wanted to learn to sell.

He added that he arrived on Tuesday and was at a hostel but had to leave after being told he had not paid.

Judge Paula Murphy refused bail and remanded him in custody to appear at Cloverhill District Court on September 8th with legal aid.

It was ordered that he receive appropriate psychiatric attention in custody.
