Gardaí have confirmed the arrest of a man following an assault and robbery which occurred in the early hours of the morning.
The incident which took place on Main Street, Newbridge, Co. Kildare saw a man in his 30s assault and rob another male who was walking toward his vehicle.
At approximately 1.30am the lone male was attacked, and his car was stolen from the scene, where he was later taken to Naas General Hospital with serious, but non life threatening injuries.
Following a search operation, Gardaí in Newbridge arrested the perpetrator a short distance from the scene of the crime.
He is currently being detained at Newbridge Garda Station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, however, Gardaí are appealing for witnesses and anyone with information is asked to contact Newbridge Garda Station on 045 431212 or the Confidential Line on 1800 666 111.
