Mashups of popular songs are created all the time, although some are less desirable to hear than others. Well, YouTuber Bill McClintock is back with another one of his creations where he has mashed heavy metals finest with the funky sounds of Steely Dan.
Bill is one of the best YouTuber for mashups and has a real gift for mixing together some very different genres. His new video, Dantallica depicts two very different spectrums of American rock, with a little hint of New Yorkers, KISS.
The YouTube wizard has chosen to transform early-day Metallica hits, Seek And Destroy and For Whom The Bell Tolls, and gave them a ‘Dan’ twist. Funk-jazz classic, Black Friday is played throughout the mashup, with a hint of Kiss swagger towards the end with some licks of Love Gun.
The results can be seen for themselves, with a ‘sonic soup’ reframing James Hetfield’s blood-lust lyrics in an all-together jam. MetalInjection beautifully describe the mashup as “the kind of song that makes you want to sit back and relax, while also maybe getting up and knocking some stuff over”.
Bill has quite the collection of mashups, with other masterpiece mashups such as Ratt vs. Marvin Gaye, Marilyn Manson vs. Mariah Carey, Danzig vs. Donna Summer, Slayer vs. The Bangles, Slayer vs. The B-52s, Slayer vs. Wham, Guns N’ Roses vs. Stevie Wonder.
There have been so many tracks which weirdly mis well with one another and Metallica seems to be a firm favourite. YouTuber, William Maranci also creates mashup videos, with a personal favourite of mine being “Beastie Boys – Intergalactic But It’s Ghostbusters by Ray Parker Jr.”
His festive mix blends an instrumental of Mariah Carey’s Christmas song, All I Want For Christmas Is You, with James Hetfield’s guitar riffs and gravelly vocals from For Whom The Bell Tolls. Check out the mashup here.
