A 17-year-old secondary school student used all of her prowess as a karate champion to see off a would be kidnapper in broad daylight on Tuesday in Co. Meath.

Brown belt holder and international kenpo star Kate Mulhern was minding her own business while out walking her new puppy near her Blackcastle Demense home in Navan.

A man walking behind her overtook her on the footpath before turning around and attempting to pounce on Kate, attempting to grab her before she used all the skills she harnessed as a martial artist to block him.

It's reported that she kicked the man in the ribs which made him fall back against a car which its reported was to be used to abscond from the scene with Kate.

However after that the car with another man behind the wheel sped off from the scene.

Kate said both men looked to be in their 40s with the attacker wearing a black hat and a navy zip-up fleece.

The car it self was described as an old black saloon. The frightening incident has been reported to gardaí in Navan whom its confirmed are now investigating.

Kate represented Ireland twice last year and competed in the world championships in Tenerife in 2017.
