The news that we have been hinting and talking about for weeks has finally been confirmed! Metallica have announced a couple of releases to celebrate the 30th anniversary of their self-titled album, aka "The Black Album".
Released in August 1991, the album includes tracks "The Unforgiven", "Enter Sandman", and "Nothing Else Matters".
Earlier this month, the band's guitarist James Hetfield said that the album "changed our lives".
“So many things changed for us externally after The Black Album release”, he said.
The album was also commemorated following the release of a limited edition Black Album whiskey pack in it's honour. More on that report here.
Last month, Metallica appeared to tease fans about a possible reissue for the album with an intruiging post in their Instagram account. More on that here.
"The Black Album" will be remastered for the "definitive" new reissue. This will be released on September 10 on Metallica's own Blackened Recordings.
This album will contain a 180 gram double vinyl LP, a 3x CD expanded edition, streaming and limited edition deluxe box, as well as a standard CD. Available to pre-order here.
Another album will also be released to celebrate the anniversary. "The Metallica Blacklist" will see around 50 artists contributing "a unique interpretation" of their favourite song from that Black Album. Profits from this will be split between the artists' chosen charities and Metallica's All Within My Hands Foundation.
This album will also be released on September 10 and will contain 53 tracks. Physical formats will follow this release on October 1. This will include four CDs and a 7xLP vinyl pressing.
Pre-order here.

The artists that will be contributing to this project include Weezer, Royal Blood, Sam Fender, Biffy Clyro and Volbeat among others.
Earlier this year, it had been reported that Elton John was working with Metallica on new material. The singer is another artist who contributes to this remastered project. Elton features in Miley Cyrus' cover for "Nothing Else Matters".
