Michael Schumacher's wife Corinna, has made a statement regarding a "far too lenient" sentence, which was handed down to her husband's former bodyguard for attempting to blackmail the German.

Markus Fritsche. who worked as a bodyguard to Schumacher until 2021, had allegedly obtained 1,500 photos, 200 videos, and confidential medical information regarding the Formula One legend, which he was using to blackmail him for €15 Million.

Ultimately, Markus Fritsche was handed a two year suspended sentence in court.

"far too lenient"

In a statement, Corinna Schumacher confirmed that an appeal has been lodged following the verdict.

"We have appealed against what we consider to be the far too lenient sentence for Mr F", Corinna's statement read. "In my opinion, he was the mastermind behind this. What still shocks me most is the massive breach of trust. He should receive a punishment that deters any potential copycats".

Fritche, along with nightclub bouncer Yilmaz Tozturkan, and his son Daniel Lins, were also accused of being part of this scheme.

It had been reported that Fritsche had threatened to leak highly personal photos of Schumacher following his horrific skiing accident in 2013, which has left the former World F1 champion with severe brain injuries, and requiring constant medical care.

Markus Fritsche, who was hired by the Schumachers 18 months prior to the accident, had reportedly become bitter after being relieved of his duties, having worked for them for 8 years. He was one of a select few who were trusted to be around Michael Schumacher following the accident.

Last October, Michael Schumacher was spotted in public for the first time since his accident. The German attended his daughter Gina's wedding at the family's €32 million Majorcan mansion. More on this from Nova here.
