Michael Sheen is to play the role of Prince Andrew in a series based on the explosive Newsnight interview.
The series titled, ‘A Very Royal Scandal’, will see the Welsh actor co star alongside Ruth Wilson, who plays reporter Emily Maitlis, who interviewed Andrew over his association with disgraced billionaire Jeffrey Epstein in 2019.
Epstein died in a prison cell in August 2021, after being jailed for various sex trafficking charges.
Directed by Becoming Jane’s Julian Jarrold, ‘A Very British Scandal’ will also be written by Jeremy Brock (The Last King Of Scotland).

“A Very Royal Scandal will be aired by Amazon Studios, and will follow Maitlis’ “professional and personal journey as a Newsnight journalist leading up to her acclaimed interview with Prince Andrew”.
Emily Maitlis also serves as an executive producer on the series. She eventually left Newsnight, to host the News Agents podcast, alongside former BBC journalists Jon Sopel and Lewis Goodall.

This three part series is produced by Blueprint Television for Amazon Studios, with Karen Thrussell, Graham Broadbent, Blueprint Television for Amazon Studios, with Karen Thrussell, Pete Czernin, Diarmuid McKeown, Graham Broadbent, Mr Brock and Mr Jarrold as executive producers.
Alongside Sheen and Wilson, Joanna Scanlon will also feature as part of the cast, playing Amanda Thirsk, Prince Andrew’s former private secretary.
Eanna Hardwicke will play the role of BBC Newsnight editor Stewart Maclean, while Alex Jennings will portray the role of Sir Edward Young, the late Queen’s private secretary.
This comes just weeks after it was confirmed that another British actor Steve Coogan would star as presenter and radio DJ Jimmy Savile in a BBC series.
