Mumford and Sons have confirmed a date for the release of their first album in 7 years.

The band will release their fifth studio album, 'Rushmere' on March 28, with their first single arriving tomorrow (January 17).

'Rushmere' will mark Mumford and Sons' first album since 'Delta' in 2018, and it is also their first release since the departure of banjoist and lead guitarist Winston Marshall.

Marshall left the band in 2021 in controversial circumstances, where he received backlash over praising a book written by right-wing journalist Andy Ngo.

"no easy decision"

Stating that it had been "no easy decision" to leave, Marshall described his 14 years with Mumford and Sons as "exhilarating".

"I loved those first tours. Bouncing off a sweaty stage in an Edinburgh catacomb we then had to get to a gig in Camden by lunch the next day", she said. "We couldn't fit all four of us and Ted's double-bass into the VW Polo. I think it was Ben who drew the short-straw and had to follow by train with his keyboard. I remember blitzing it down the M6 through the night, the lads asleep beside me".

"We made it but my voice sadly didn't, completely shot by exhaustion, I had to mime my harmonies. Being in Mumford Sons was exhilarating".

While this album will be the first to be released by Mumford and Sons, their frontman Marcus Mumford released his debut solo album, 'Self-Titled' in 2022.
