Mumford & Sons debuted a brand new song, ‘Maybe,’ over the weekend.
The folk and rock band headlined Austin City Limits in Texas and took the opportunity to showcase new music, inviting Noah Kahan to join them for the live premiere of ‘Maybe.’
Frontman Marcus Mumford teased the track a few days prior, playing an acoustic version on TikTok. The post sent fans into a frenzy, hoping the band may be readying the release of it's first new album since 2018’s ‘Delta.’
‘Maybe’ includes lyrics like:
“Go on, light a candle
F**k it, light what you like
Just sit here with me for a time
Let's watch the world go 'round
Let's watch the tykes
With the light in their eyes
Maybe it's theirs
Maybe we gave it away
Maybe it's closer than we ever thought
The ways we don't cherish
Every little thing
Honey, it's all around”
While the only recording available is fan footage, you can hear the new song, featuring singer-songwriter Noah Kahan, here:
Marcus Mumford released his debut solo album in 2020. However, fans of Mumford & Sons have been chomping at the bit for a full-band studio offering.
It would seem their prayers are close to being answered.
